WoodKare
SURFACE PREPARATION:

SANDING:

Sand the surface along the grains with emery paper no. 180 followed by no. 320. Clean surface free of dust and grease.

STAINING:

If the natural look of the wood is to be retained then skip this step. If a stained finish is desired, apply a ready-to-use wood stainer with a brush or muslin cloth. Alternatively, you can prepare and apply your own stainer by mixing pigment powder in ‘ProtectoCoat - Woodgard Sealer’ and thinning it down with water (1 part Woodgard Sealer is mixed with 3 parts water).

SEALING:

If you do not wish to seal the pores in the wood, then skip this step. If the pores in the wood are required to be filled, apply ‘ProtectoCoat - Woodgard Sealer’ liberally using a brush, spray gun (requires dilution with water) or a muslin cloth. If a muslin cloth is used apply the Woodgard-Sealer using a circular motion. Allow it to hard dry for 3-4 hours. Rainy days may require longer time.

Repeat filling operations, if necessary, till all the pores are completely sealed. Smooth the surface using emery paper no. 320.

Note: Sealing of pores is essential if a high gloss, mirror like finish is required

TOP COAT:

Protecto-WoodKare is a two pack system in which both components are mixed thoroughly before applying. Use Protecto-WoodKare Glossy to obtain a high gloss finish and Protecto-WoodKare Matt to obtain a matt finish. Mixing ratio for both cases is 1:4 by volume. You can mix the Glossy and Matt topcoats in any proportions for different levels of gloss.

Apply two coats of Protecto-WoodKare by spraying (at 1.8 kg/sq. cm. pressure) or by brushing. Lightly sand with emery paper no. 400 after drying first coat for 4-5 hours. Allow second coat to dry thoroughly. Full scratch hardness is achieved after 4 days.

Spirit or alcoholic solvents should not be used as thinners for Protecto-WoodKare. We recommend ‘ProtectoCoat - Thinner 102’ if you wish to thin Protecto-WoodKare. To avoid whiteness and dull appearance of coatings, ensure that the compressor is drained completely and the compressed air is free of moisture. Similarly for brush applications the brush should be totally dry.
